The Newtown School Massacre: Can You Help?

Posted on December 28, 2012

It took me over a week to pen my overwhelmed thoughts and feelings about December 14th’s horrific and tragic massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

As a parent, I can’t even begin to fathom what the families who have lost their little innocent children must be feeling. How must have they felt that moment when they received the news? How must they be feeling now? How will they cope in the future? Their lives will never be the same. And to think that these parents who’ve lost their children due to violent and deadly acts in school are not alone is mind-blowing. This scenario with different players  has happened time and time again!

If you can stomach it, read this: Time Line of Worldwide Mass and School Shootings since 1996. But today, this is what the media advocates are trying to do so tragedy does not happen again:

1. Piers Morgan is advocating strict gun control laws. Watch this: Gun Violence Debate, on CNN.

2. Anderson Cooper and Chief Medical Correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, on AC 360, drew public attention to the lack of proper medical attention to children with mental illnesses that were connected with or responsible for some recent shooting massacres. Interesting point, but Dr. Gupta states that,” …hardly ever does anyone really just snap.” He believes that there are other “contributing factors” that come into play. Hear this : Inside Violent Minds

However, this takes us to the third and perhaps the most important controversial issue:

3. Violent video games are readily available and popular among children and young adults. These interactive games seem to heavily influence behavior in acts of brutal violence and massacres like the one we saw in Newtown. Please read what distinguished professor of psychology, Dr. Craig Anderson, has researched and proved, and has been discussing since 2007! : VIOLENT VIDEO GAME PLAY MAKES MORE AGGRESSIVE KIDS. He even authored a book called Violent Video Game Effects but we weren’t listening! And now, at a sad time like this, FIVE years later, his advice is being sought after. Listen very CAREFULLY: Video Game Concerns after Newtown

So now we have to wait and see what new policies the LAW MAKERS will put into place for stricter gun controls. We will also have to wait and see what programs the LAW MAKERS will put into place to diagnose, treat, and support early mental imbalance issues. We’ll have to wait because it is not in our hands.

However, what is in our hands and what we can stand up for and put a stop to NOW, as parents is the boycott of these VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES. Parents, If your children are not playing violent video games, congratulations! Your parental instinct, your Parental Guidance System (PGS), was right on! For those of you that have allowed monitored violent video game play, it is time to reconsider, and for those of you who don’t agree with Dr. Craig Anderson and the message of this article, imagine, just for a whole minute being the parents of Jessica Rekos, a six year old angel, who is not with her parents anymore. Here’s how they feel: Parents of Jessica Rekos recount Details.

If you agree with banning violent video games, please “like” and share this post on Facebook and Twitter and email to spread the message to as many friends as possible. Together, we can make a difference.
