Communication HABITS vs. Communication Skills…
Posted on April 3, 2012

When you browse through our website, you will notice the emphasis on the phrase “communication habits.” Although “communication skills” is a more commonly used term, we felt that when it comes to kids and parenting, our goal is to build lasting communication “habits.”
Here’s the difference:
While a “skill” is the ability to do something well, a “habit” is a practice that is repeated until it becomes almost involuntary or natural. “Habit” is related to the word “habitat,” which means “natural environment.” Our mission is to creatively equip you, the parent, with TOGs (Tools of Growth), so that you can build lasting communication habits — habits that become a natural part of your family environment. This will help you raise kids to BE HAPPY, because they are able to communicate with you as you are able to do with them. It will also help them draw positive conclusions not just from their victories but also from their challenges, encouraging them to THINK POSITIVE. Needless to say, the stellar combination of happiness and positive thinking builds a child’s self esteem and makes them feel good. It is a combination that will naturally lead your kids to DO GOOD… for themselves and those around them!
Parents, please make communication A HABIT and then watch these habits serve you well. As the saying goes, “First we make our habits and then our habits make us.”
